Adventures on Ice!

Our story begins yesterday at 3:30pm when we left work with hopes of heading home to snuggle for a couple of days. The roads seemed like they were starting to get slick, but it didn't look like we were going to have much trouble. We picked up Sawyer at daycare and headed north on 65 to our turnoff. We made it slowly and carefully and without much problem to Hwy 176. That is where the adventure began. We slid around the first curve and thought "this could be tricky." Then we got to the next big curve and saw a few cars stopped ahead of us. Chris, being the great driver that he is, decided we should pull into a gravel driveway and scope out what was happening ahead of us before trying to drive on. That was the smartest decision ever!! We sat in the driveway and watched the few cars grow to 15 and we literally watched a car slide right in front of us and smash head on into another car. It was like watching bumber cars, only not nearly as fun! We stayed there for about an hour hoping the call to 911 would result in a salt truck or some sort of rescue. That never happened so we decided to take a risk and try to get back to the highway. We drove in the ditch and through a field (literally) just to try to get to somewhere where my dad could rescue us. By the grace of God we made it to a parking lot just off Hwy 65 where my dad was able to come pick us up. After 3 hours, we let out a sigh of relief as we pulled into my parent's driveway. Sawyer was getting really tired of his carseat and our stomachs couldn't take much more stress and excitement. We have never been so happy to be safe and sound in a house!! Praise the Lord that we stopped where we did or we might be telling quite a different story today!
